How I Became a Sculptor Overnight

I was thrilled to be interviewed recently for TV's Border Life; a magazine style programme aired on ITV here in the UK.

Find out how I became a sculptor and built a career in the art world.

Creating ‘Apple’ and ‘Pear’ in Bronze

In this short video follow James as he sculpts a clay original, takes a plaster copy then travels to Black Isle Bronze in the Scottish Highlands to begin the bronze casting process for his ‘Apple’ and ‘Pear’ sculptures.

Bronze sculpture is a relatively new addition to James’ portfolio. Find out more.

Sculpting Slate

Slate sculpture is where it all began for James and although he’s introduced new materials into his portfolio slate will always remain.

James’ most sought after slate sculptures include ‘DNA of a Dancer’, ‘Pear’, ‘Creation’ (egg) and ‘Apple’ which is the piece James is working on in this video.

Maths in Nature - Sculpting a Pine Cone with Fibonacci Geometry

A short video by James where he discusses the creation of his Pine Cone sculpture with perfect Fibonacci geometry. He discusses how and why Fibonacci numbers play an important part in nature and how he interprets the spirals in a Pine Cone.

See the sculpture being completed before it is delivered to the Bronze Foundry to be cast.
